PPH INDUSTRIAL PIPING SYSTEM
Durable and Chemical-Resistant Pipes
PPH (Polypropylene Homopolymer) industrial pipes are high-performance thermoplastic pipes widely used in industrial processing and fluid handling systems. They are specifically engineered to handle aggressive chemicals, high temperatures, and high pressure more effectively than standard PVC or regular polypropylene (PP-R/PP-B) pipes.
Here is a detailed breakdown of their description, properties, and applications:
1. Material and Structural Composition
PPH is a 100% homopolymer polypropylene. Unlike copolymers, it consists of a single type of propylene monomer, resulting in a highly crystalline structure.
High Rigidity: The crystalline structure gives it superior mechanical strength and stiffness.
Beta-Nucleated PPH (PPH-Beta): Most modern industrial PPH pipes are beta-nucleated, which reorganizes the crystalline structure to provide exceptional impact strength (especially at low temperatures) and enhanced chemical resistance.
2. Key Technical Specifications & Properties
Temperature Range: Excellent performance from 0°C to 100°C (32°F to 212°F). It can handle intermittent spikes up to 110°C, making it ideal for hot chemical lines.
Pressure Ratings: Typically available in PN10 (10 bar) and PN16 (16 bar) ratings, depending on wall thickness and operating temperature.
Chemical Resistance: Highly resistant to strong acids (like hydrochloric, sulfuric, and phosphoric acids), alkalis, organic solvents, and industrial waste.
Smooth Internal Surface: Low surface roughness prevents scaling, encrustation, and bio-growth, ensuring consistent flow rates and minimal pressure drops.
3. Advantages of PPH Industrial Pipes
Corrosion Proof: Unlike metal piping, PPH does not rust, pit, or corrode when exposed to harsh chemicals or galvanic environments.
High Impact Strength: The beta-nucleation process ensures the pipe resists cracking and physical damage during handling and high-pressure operations.
Thermal Insulation: Lower thermal conductivity compared to metals, reducing heat loss in hot fluid transport.
Long Service Life: Designed to last 50+ years under standard operating conditions and proper pressure/temperature management.
Jointing Reliability: Joined using butt-fusion welding or socket-fusion welding, creating homogenous, leak-proof joints that are as strong as the pipe itself.
4. Primary Industrial Applications
PPH piping systems are standard in heavy industries where fluid integrity and safety are critical:
Industry | Common Usage |
Chemical Processing | Transport of highly corrosive acids, alkalis, and chemical compounds. |
Water & Waste Treatment | Effluent treatment plants (ETP), sewage handling, and industrial water demineralization. |
Steel Pickling Lines | Handling the hot acid baths used to clean steel sheets and wires. |
Power Plants | Ash handling, cooling water lines, and chemical dosing systems. |
Pharmaceuticals & Mining | Slurry transport, process lines, and high-purity water distribution. |
5. Standard Dimensions and Compliance
PPH industrial pipes are generally manufactured in accordance with international standards:
DIN 8077 / 8078: German standards for polypropylene pipe dimensions and testing.
EN ISO 15494: International standard for plastics piping systems for industrial applications.
Size Range: Commonly available from Outer Diameter (OD) 20mm up to 500mm or more, with matching molded fittings (elbows, tees, flanges, and valves).
